FALMOUTHYour Own Voice11. – 14. April 2015 I Walli Höfinger & Christiane Hommelsheim

WORKSHOP at the GIVING VOICE FESTIVAL 2015 in Falmouth, Cornwall:

Walli Höfinger & Christiane Hommelsheim
11 – 14 of April 2015

„CONSCIOUS SPONTANEITY describes the performer/singer’s condition in those rare moments when mortality and eternity coincide, where consciousness (our physical limits) and spontaneity (the limitless nature of the imagination) create a recognizable yet original state of being.“ Richard Armstrong (RHT founding member)

In this workshop we will explore this fascinating state of being by working with the practice of letting the voice lead and the mind listen, as opposed to the conscious mind controlling the voice. Physical movement often spontaneously supports the journey of voice and breath and is encouraged.

We will explore how to stay perceptive with the mind, to listen carefully and notice what is going on in voice, body and emotions, to be able to later remember details of the journey. This can be helpful, in order to find the way back to special sounds or realms, which can be a fascinating source of compositional material for performance.

You will have the opportunity to explore what “CONSCIOUS SPONTANEITY” means within your voice, and how to allow your own music to emerge.

The workshop will include deep physical and vocal preparation, individual lessons and group improvisation, where we will play with the connection of voice and body, voice and perception. We will move into new territory of our voices beyond the areas that we habitually use, and enjoy the pleasure of singing together!

Open to all, maximum number of participants: 14 people
Please bring a mat or blanket for working on the floor and comfortable clothes in layers.
